Deciding to specialize in Plastic Surgery, he moved to Brazil, the reference country in the subject, and started living in Rio de Janeiro. Approved at the General Surgery Medical Residence of Hospital Santa Casa da Misericórdia in Rio de Janeiro, for two years he dedicated himself to the surgical bases that shaped his training in the dreamed Plastic Surgery.

The dream started with his approval at the Plastic Surgery Service of the State University of Rio de Janeiro (UERJ), at the Pedro Ernesto University Hospital, where for a year he was awarded the teaching of great names, such as Dr. Cláudio Cardoso de Castro, known worldwide for his facial surgery techniques.

After the first year in Plastic Surgery, Dr. GC did an internship at the Nelson Piccolo Institute, in Goiânia / GO, a reference center in the treatment of burns, and also had the opportunity to do an internship with the brilliant Dr. Jason Pozner, from Sanctuary Plastic Surgery, Florida, United States.

In 2013, he competed in the disputed selection process of the Ivo Pitanguy Institute, in Rio de Janeiro, being approved in one of the most outstanding medical residences in the world of Plastic Surgery.

During three years of specialization, he received teachings from renowned plastic surgeons, including Dr. Ramil Sinder, Dr. Carlos Alberto Jaimovich, Dr. Claudio Cardoso de Castro, Dr. José Aldari, all with vast knowledge and experience, not to mention the great master Ivo Pitanguy, father of Modern Plastic Surgery, with whom Dr. Calderón was honored to live, learn and assist in surgeries.

During the specialization, Dr. GC performed several stages of improvement in major reference centers, such as the National Cancer Institute (INCA), Hospital Souza Aguiar, and Rede D’or.

During this period, he also carried out the Hair Micro Transplantation Program in Porto Alegre / RS with the renowned Dr. Carlos Uebel, as well as attended the Training Course in the areas of lasers and non-invasive procedures at the Clínica Rômulo Mêne, in Rio de Janeiro, such as Peels, Botulinum Toxin, Fillers and use of Platelet-Rich Plasma.

For two consecutive years, he held the Open Project Course on Structured Rhinoplasty, a traditional Brazilian course to deepen the art of Rhinoplasty.

In 2017, he was approved in the Revalidation of the Doctor’s Diploma, in the well-attended two-phase test, also becoming a Brazilian doctor, which is why he was hired by CER (Regional Emergency Center) at the Municipal Hospital Miguel Couto, in Rio de Janeiro, with a two-year employment contract.

Soon after, he was approved in the Cranio-maxillofacial Specialization Program of the National Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics of Rio de Janeiro (INTO), headed by Dr. Ricardo Lopes da Cruz, a world reference in craniofacial surgery, which granted the Specialist title after two years of training.

During these years of specialization, he took several improvement courses in the Orthognathic area of Craniofacial Surgery, such as the Pathology Update Course for the Cranio-maxillofacial Surgeon at the Samaritano Hospital in Rio de Janeiro, as well as the International Course of Immersion in Orthognathic Surgery in Fresh Corpse, in Belo Horizonte / MG.

After 10 years of improvement and hard work, in 2019, Dr. Gabriel Calderón returned to his country of origin and now works in Santo Domingo, capital of the Dominican Republic, as Plastic Surgeon and craniomaxillofacial in his Private Office and also in CEDIMAT, considered one of the most modern health institutions in the country, Central America and the Caribbean.

Dr. GC is an effective member of AexPI – Association of Former Students of Professor Ivo Pitanguy, member of SODOCIPRE – Dominican Society of Plastic, Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery; member of CMD – Colégio Médico Dominicano; and, member of CREMERJ – Regional Council of Medicine of the State of Rio de Janeiro.
